This spring, escape to the Clare Valley for a truly unforgettable countryside lunch experience. On Sunday 21 September 2025, the historic Martindale Hall will host The Fire of Sunday — a long, slow lunch inspired by the Argentinian art of open-fire cooking, designed to bring people together through food, fire, and fine wine.
Set in the estate’s original 19th-century stone coach house, this rustic event invites guests to savour the warmth and theatre of traditional fire cooking in one of South Australia’s most picturesque heritage settings.
At the heart of the feast is whole lamb, roasted low and slow over glowing embers by local fire cooks using time-honoured methods. The lamb is supplied by Wunderbar Lamb, Australia’s first “Humane Choice Accredited” lamb producer — a family-run operation based in the Clare Valley and known for its regenerative farming and exceptional flavour.
To complement the meal, guests will enjoy a curated selection of wines from the celebrated Clare Valley winery Matriarch and Rogue. With an arrival drink included and additional wine available for purchase by the glass or bottle, the afternoon promises to be as generous as it is relaxed.
Live acoustic music by local talent Brad Bryksy will set the tone for a laid-back spring Sunday, where every detail — from the crackle of the fire to the historic charm of Martindale Hall — adds to the atmosphere.
“This event is about slowing down and embracing the rituals of food and conversation,” says organiser Jacinta Gibson. “It’s a chance to experience something raw and real — cooking with fire, sharing a meal, and reconnecting in a beautiful countryside setting.”
With just 90 tickets available, this intimate event offers a rare opportunity to experience Martindale Hall in a new light — through the lens of flavour, storytelling, and South Australian hospitality.
