Autumn Devonshire Tea at Martindale Hall

A seasonal tradition returns.

Autumn arrives quietly at Martindale Hall.

The light changes and the rooms of the house begin to hold a slower, quieter rhythm.

This season we are pleased to welcome guests for our Autumn Devonshire Tea Series, served within the grand rooms of the estate.

Tables are prepared as they have been for generations. Teapots are warmed. Fresh scones come from the oven. Guests take their place at the table and the afternoon unfolds.

Martindale Hall was built for exactly this kind of moment.

A Proper Devonshire Tea

Our Devonshire Tea honours the simplicity of the tradition.

Guests are served freshly baked sweet and savoury scones, accompanied by preserves and cream, presented with care and without fuss. It is a ritual that has remained largely unchanged for more than a century.

The pleasure lies not in complexity, but in the act itself: a pot of tea shared, a quiet table, and conversation that moves easily across it.

The Tea at the Table

At Martindale Hall, tea is not an afterthought. It is part of the structure of the table.

For the Autumn Devonshire Tea Series we proudly serve loose-leaf teas by Sociatea, including blends from The Merry Wolf collection.

These teas have been selected for their ability to accompany food and conversation in equal measure. Full-bodied black teas provide warmth and depth, pairing naturally with freshly baked scones and traditional preserves.

Guests may discover blends such as:

Organic Barossa Breakfast — a balanced, satisfying morning-style black tea
Good Mornin’ Irish Breakfast — rich, robust and traditional
Belle Matinée French Earl Grey — bright citrus lifted by elegant bergamot

Each tea is blended and curated with hospitality in mind.

If you enjoy the teas served during Devonshire Tea, guests will also have the opportunity to explore the range further through Sociatea, where many of these blends are available to enjoy at home.

A House Designed for Gathering

Martindale Hall is not simply admired.

It is a house that was built to host. Rooms prepared for guests, tables laid for conversation, and hospitality offered with quiet precision.

The Devonshire Tea Series continues this rhythm.

When you attend, you are not simply visiting a historic house. You are participating in the pattern of hospitality that shaped it.
